Born 1954 in Cologne, Germany. He studied philosophy and art history in Aachen and Paris (Sorbonne IV). In 1979, he was political editor at AFP (Agence France Presse) in Paris. He was correspondent in Paris for "ART - Das Kunstmagazin" (Hamburg) from 1981 to 1987. He also worked for the popular cinema program "Etoiles et toiles" on French TV station TF1.

In 1985, he founded HPS-Films production company with offices in Berlin and Paris. At the same time, he worked as a freelance cultural journalist for "Transatlantik", "Zeit Magazin", "Artpress", "Beaux Arts Magazine", "Filmkorrespondenz", among others.

In 1988, he produced a TV series on the artists Daniel Buren, Mario Merz, Richard Long and Christian Boltanski for the Centre Pompidou (Paris).

1989: Founded production company "Artcore Film & Communication".

1998/99: Second editor-in-chief of "ART - Das Kunstmagazin" (Hamburg).

Since 2002, he is artistic director of artists’ film festival KunstFilmBiennale Cologne.

In 2005, he was curator for German-speaking films for International Independent Film Festival in Buenos Aires, BAFICI.

Actually, he lives in Cologne and Paris.

1992: Retrospective in New York (MoMA, Anthology Film Society, Goethe House, Institut Français).

1998: Retrospectives in the museums of Buenos Aires, Córdoba, Santiago de Chile, Asunción and Montevideo.

2000: Retrospective in Rio de Janeiro (Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil).

2001: Retrospectives in Helsinki (Finnish National Gallery), Mexico City (Kinemathek) and Monterey (Festival de Film).

2004: Retrospective in Buenos Aires, Malba Museum.
